Hornady Precision Hunter® 6.5 PRC ammunition was developed to deliver exceptional long-range accuracy, flat trajectory, and devastating terminal performance in a modern, efficient magnum cartridge design. Often referred to as the “big brother” to the 6.5 Creedmoor, the 6.5 PRC was engineered to provide significantly increased velocity and energy while maintaining manageable recoil, excellent barrel life, and outstanding shot-to-shot consistency.

Built around efficient case geometry, the 6.5 PRC utilizes a long case neck and 30-degree shoulder design for improved cartridge alignment, consistent chambering, and reliable performance. Designed to function in short or medium-length actions with a standard .532″ magnum bolt face, the cartridge offers magnum-level performance in a compact, efficient platform.

Loaded with Hornady’s advanced ELD-X® (Extremely Low Drag – eXpanding) bullet technology, Precision Hunter® ammunition combines match-grade accuracy with reliable terminal performance across a wide range of hunting distances.

At the center of the ELD-X® bullet is Hornady’s patented Heat Shield® tip, engineered to resist deformation caused by aerodynamic heating during flight. This allows the bullet to maintain a perfectly consistent meplat and preserve its industry-leading ballistic coefficient throughout the entire trajectory.

The streamlined secant ogive profile, optimized boattail design, and highly concentric AMP® bullet jackets combine to create exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, reduced wind drift, and superior long-range accuracy.

Terminal Performance:

At higher impact velocities from approximately 0–400 yards, the ELD-X® bullet delivers rapid and continuous expansion throughout the penetration path. The thick rear jacket shank and InterLock® ring help retain the core and jacket together, typically providing 50–60% retained weight for deep penetration and significant energy transfer.

At extended distances beyond 400 yards where impact velocities are lower, the Heat Shield® tip initiates controlled expansion, producing a large mushroom profile with 85–90% retained weight for deep penetration and massive wound cavities.
